How Concrete Footings and Walls Support Your Home
The footing is where the building's weight meets the soil. It has to be sized right, reinforced right, and poured on stable ground, or everything above it will move. Foundation installation begins with excavation to the engineer's depth and a soil check, then the footing is formed, rebar is tied, and concrete is placed with no voids.
Walls come next, formed plumb and true, rebar tied to spec, concrete consolidated so there are no cold joints or air pockets. The slab is then cured before backfill, because rushing this step is how cracks start years later.
Once the concrete has set, waterproofing and weeping tile keep groundwater out. This is what keeps your basement dry through the spring melt. The same care goes into every residential concrete project we pour.
The sequence
Steps to Pour a Concrete Foundation in Regina
-
Dig and check the soil
We excavate to the depth on the drawings, confirm the bearing soil is stable, and survey the layout and elevations before ordering concrete.
-
Form and tie rebar
Footings and walls are formed straight, reinforcement is tied to the engineer's spec, and the work is inspected before the pour begins.
-
Place and finish concrete
Concrete is placed and worked so there are no voids or weak spots, footings first, then walls, using the mix design from the drawings.
-
Cure, strip and protect
Forms are removed on schedule, walls are sealed or waterproofed, and the foundation is cured before any backfill is placed against it.
When trouble shows
Catch Foundation Cracks Early, Fix Them Right
Small cracks, damp corners, and sticky doors are the first signs. Foundation crack repair seals those early cracks before water and frost can work them wider and deeper into the slab.
If movement has gone further, foundation repair fixes the root cause, not just the symptom. Underpinning deepens or widens a footing that was never adequate for the load. Pairing any repair with waterproofing keeps the problem from returning.
