Grind and Polish Your Concrete Floor in Regina

Polishing a concrete slab means grinding it flat through progressive diamond grits, densifying the surface chemically, and finishing to your chosen gloss level. The result is the slab itself as the floor, not a coating over it. Regina Concrete handles polished floors for retail showrooms, office spaces, galleries and any commercial setting where durability and light reflection matter. Call for a free written estimate.

Why polish instead of coat

Polished Concrete Floors Outlast Coatings

A polished floor is the slab itself, refined through grinding and densification. There is no layer to peel, no coating to reapply, no wax to strip. The concrete becomes the finished surface, harder and more reflective than the raw pour.

This approach works best where the floor must perform for decades with minimal upkeep, where natural light reflection reduces the need for additional lighting, and where the honest look of the concrete itself fits the design. Showrooms, galleries, offices and retail spaces all benefit from the durability and low-maintenance profile.

Our epoxy floor systems serve different needs, and other commercial floor options exist for specialized conditions. When the slab is too uneven, self-leveling underlayment prepares it. We also offer residential polished concrete for homes.

The sequence

Grinding and Polishing a Commercial Slab Step by Step

  1. Evaluate the existing slab

We inspect the concrete for cracks, spalls, flatness and hardness, then discuss the target gloss and aggregate exposure with you before quoting any prep work.

  2. Grind through coarse diamond grits

Coarse diamond grinding flattens the slab, exposes the aggregate level you chose (cream, salt-and-pepper or full), and removes any surface contaminants or old coatings.

  3. Apply densifier and hone

A chemical densifier hardens the concrete, then progressive honing grits smooth the surface and begin building the sheen you want.

  4. Final polish and guard coat

The final polishing grits bring the slab to the agreed gloss level, and a guard coat protects the surface during the first weeks of use.

Finish and upkeep

Aggregate Exposure and Polished Floor Care

The aggregate exposure you select at the start determines the visual character of the finished slab. Cream-only gives a soft, uniform appearance with no stones visible. Salt-and-pepper shows small aggregate flecks for subtle variation. Full aggregate exposes larger stones for a terrazzo-like, dramatic look. We grind a small test area on your slab so you see the actual result before committing to the full polish.

Maintenance is straightforward. Daily dust mopping or auto-scrubbing keeps the floor clean and sharp. The densifier is refreshed periodically (every few years depending on foot traffic) to maintain surface hardness. Unlike epoxy or other coatings, there is no waxing, stripping or top-coat reapplication. The slab itself is the floor.

If your space has mixed flooring needs, coordinate epoxy flooring in back-of-house areas with the polished slab in front. See our full commercial floor menu for other options. We also handle decorative concrete finishes for branded spaces.

Common questions

Polished Concrete Questions, Answered

Aggregate exposure, gloss levels, maintenance and when polished beats other finishes.

Most can, but very rough or very out-of-tolerance slabs need preparation first. We assess the existing slab, identify any work needed (crack repair, spall patching, self-leveling underlayment for badly out-of-tolerance areas), and quote that work alongside the polish.
Three common levels: cream-only (soft uniform finish, no aggregate showing), salt-and-pepper (small aggregate exposed), and full aggregate (large stones exposed, terrazzo-like look). We mock up a small area on your slab so you choose with the actual concrete in front of you.
Matte for low-glare, soft retail; satin for offices and general commercial; high-sheen for showrooms and where light reflection is the design goal. We agree the level up front; the final grit pass is what determines it.
Daily dust mopping or auto-scrubbing keeps it looking sharp. The densifier is periodically refreshed (every several years depending on traffic) to maintain hardness. No waxing, no stripping, no top-coat re-application like with an epoxy.
Floor area drives the timeline; a typical commercial polish runs over several days from grind to final polish and guard. Most of that is the polish work itself; the floor is usable shortly after the guard cures. The full schedule is in the quote.

Salt-and-pepper exposure was the right choice for our office; not too busy, not too plain. The mockup before the full polish was the moment we knew.
