Why Concrete Fails in Saskatchewan
Freeze-thaw cycles are the enemy. Water enters the slab, freezes, expands, and spalls the surface. The protection starts underground: a compacted gravel base that sheds water, proper slab thickness for the load, and an air-entrained mix that lets the concrete flex instead of crack. A driveway poured right will outlast one cut corners on prep.
After the pour, control joints are cut at planned spacing so shrinkage cracks follow the joint line, not the surface. Sealing keeps water and de-icing salt out. The same discipline applies to foundation slabs, where drainage and reinforcement determine whether the wall stays sound for decades. We also use Sika waterproofing products on below-grade work to add an extra layer of protection.
The sequence
How Concrete Projects Unfold
-
Site visit and written quote
We measure, discuss finishes and options, then leave you with an itemised quote. No obligation, no pressure.
-
Prep and forming
Tear-out of old concrete, excavation, grading, gravel base and compaction happen before any forms are set.
-
Pour, screed and finish
The crew places concrete, screeds it level, finishes the surface (broom, stamped or exposed), and cuts control joints.
-
Cure and handoff
We walk the finished slab with you, explain the cure timeline, and tell you when it's safe to drive or use.
Durability factors
The Three Pillars of Concrete Longevity
The base is first. A flawless finish over a poorly compacted base is a slab waiting to fail. Excavation depth, gravel compaction and drainage are the single biggest predictor of long-term performance.
The mix and joints are second. Air-entrained concrete paired with control joints cut at the right spacing and depth means cracks are controlled and invisible. This matters as much on a polished concrete floor as on a driveway or patio slab.
The finish and seal are third. The surface texture sets grip and appearance; sealing keeps water, salt and stains out. Our maintenance guide shows how to keep it that way year after year.
Homeowner questions
Concrete FAQs for Regina Homeowners
Answers on cost, timing, durability and what happens during a pour.
Our old driveway was cracked end to end and heaving by the garage. The crew tore it out, rebuilt the base properly, and poured a new broom-finish slab in a day. One winter later it is still dead flat, and the written quote was the final number.
They stamped a slate pattern across the whole patio and ran a walkway out to the fire pit. The colour matched the sample, the control joints are tucked into the pattern so you barely see them, and they cleaned up like they were never here.
I needed a shop floor that could take a two-post hoist and a winter of road salt off the truck. Polished and sealed, perfectly level, zero dust. They worked around my hours and the finish still looks new.
Footings and a foundation wall for a garage addition, all poured to the engineer's drawings. The inspector passed it on the first visit and they sent photos at every stage since I could not be on site. Easy to deal with start to finish.
