Machine-Formed Curb & Gutter for Regina Lots
The edge of a parking lot is where water management begins. Curb and gutter form the boundary between the lot and the street, channel stormwater to catch basins, and meet city specifications at public tie-ins. Regina Concrete uses machine slipform for long continuous runs and hand-formed techniques for transitions, curves, and drop-curb details. Every project includes a free written estimate and firm schedule.
- Slipform paver for consistent long runs
- Hand-formed details at transitions
- Slope verified before and after cure
The gutter is the system
How Curb & Gutter Manages Lot Drainage
Curb and gutter are not decorative. The gutter pan is a channel that collects water from the lot surface and directs it toward catch basins; the curb is a barrier that prevents vehicles from leaving the pavement and contains the water flow. Without proper slope, the gutter becomes a pond. With correct slope, every storm drains cleanly.
Long straight sections are machine-formed using a slipform paver, which moves at a steady pace and holds the engineered cross-section consistently. Transitions at lot corners, intersections with other pavement, drop-curb ramps, and curved sections require hand-forming because the machine cannot navigate those details. Both methods produce the same finished profile; the choice depends on the lot layout.
This approach extends across our full parking lot work, our commercial sidewalk pours, and any parking repair that involves curb sections. When curb fails, we address it through the same repair triage used for the rest of the lot.
The sequence
Steps to Install Curb & Gutter in Regina
-
Set line and grade from survey
The curb centerline is staked from the property survey and drainage plan. Elevations are marked at every catch basin, transition, and slope change. Grade is confirmed before excavation begins.
-
Excavate and compact base
Subgrade is cut to depth, compacted, and gravel base is placed and compacted again. The surface is brought to the elevation where the concrete pour will start.
-
Machine or hand form the concrete
Long runs use a slipform paver that extrudes the concrete to the cross-section as it moves. Transitions, curves, and drop-curbs are hand-formed and tied seamlessly into the slipform sections.
-
Joint, cure, and finish tie-ins
Control joints are tooled at engineered spacing. The concrete cures protected from weather. Connections to adjacent parking slab and street pavement are detailed cleanly and inspected.
Drainage is the detail
Why Slope Determines Gutter Performance
A gutter without slope is a water trap. The pan must slope continuously from any point to the nearest catch basin at a grade steep enough to move water during peak runoff. If a slipform machine catches on a subgrade irregularity and loses even a fraction of slope, that section will pond every spring melt and every heavy rain. We monitor slope during the pour and verify it after cure.
Curb work must coordinate with the parking lot slab so the two surfaces meet flush, with the city street so the public tie-in meets code, and with any ADA ramp that requires a flush curb cut. The curb is the junction between systems. It has to fit each one precisely. Our broader parking expertise ensures every detail works together.

Curb & Gutter Questions, Answered
Slipform vs hand-formed, slope specs, city tie-ins and what curb actually does.
Long slipform run around our entire lot perimeter. Continuous, sharp edges, exact slope to the catch basins. The drainage works perfectly through every melt.
Hand-formed transitions at every entrance look like part of the design, not patched-in. They coordinated the curb pour with the asphalt apron so the meeting line is invisible.
City tie-in passed inspection first time. They knew the city's spec, poured to it, and the inspector signed off without revisions. Saved real schedule slip.
Drop-curbs at every accessible ramp tied in flush. ADA inspector confirmed compliance. The detail work shows; nothing improvised, everything to spec.
