Retaining Walls That Hold Commercial Loads in Regina

When a commercial site needs to step the grade for parking, a building pad or an access road, a retaining wall carries the weight. Regina Concrete designs and builds walls engineered to the actual load, with proper footing, rebar placement and drainage behind. We also repair walls that are moving or leaning. • Footing sized to the surcharge load
  • Rebar and reinforcement to spec
  • Drainage system behind every wall

The foundation of site work

What Makes a Retaining Wall Structural

A commercial retaining wall is not decorative. It is the concrete structure that allows a sloped site to become usable ground. The wall holds back soil and water pressure from parking lots, building foundations and access roads that sit above it, under loads far heavier than residential walls ever face.

That structural role means the concrete slab must rest on a footing sized to the height and the surcharge. Rebar runs through the wall to resist bending. A drainage layer and weeping tile behind the wall prevent water from building pressure that would push it over. When all three are done right, the wall stands for decades without movement.

When any one is missed, the wall leans, cracks or fails. That is when site concrete repair becomes urgent. We approach retaining wall work the same way we handle parking lot concrete and commercial floor systems: engineered first, built to spec.

The build sequence

How a Retaining Wall Gets Built in Regina

  1. Assess the load and grade

We measure the height, the slope angle and what sits above the wall (parking, building, road) to determine the surcharge load the footing must carry.

  2. Excavate and set the footing

The footing is dug to depth below frost line and poured to the width and thickness the load requires. A weak footing is the most common cause of wall failure.

  3. Form and place the wall

Rebar is tied through the forms or block cores, then concrete is placed and finished, or block is laid and grouted, to the engineered height and thickness.

  4. Install drainage and backfill

A perforated drain pipe and gravel layer go behind the wall before backfill, so water runs down and away instead of pressing against the concrete.

When walls move

Fixing a Failing Retaining Wall in Regina

A leaning or bulging retaining wall is a sign that the concrete is losing its battle with water pressure, an undersized footing or missing reinforcement. On a commercial site, a failing wall is not just cosmetic, it threatens the parking, the building or the access road it holds up.

Repair starts with understanding why it moved. Most often it is water pressure building behind the wall because drainage failed or was never installed. Sometimes the footing was too small for the load. We assess the cause, then either stabilize the wall if caught early or rebuild it right if it has shifted too far. The same engineering discipline applies to parking lot repair and site concrete work.

Common questions

Retaining Wall Questions, Answered

Engineering, load capacity, drainage and repair for commercial retaining walls in Regina.

Scale and load. A commercial wall holds back the grade under parking, building pads and access roads, so it carries far heavier surcharge loads and is engineered, footed and reinforced for them, not built to a residential rule of thumb.
Usually, yes, especially for height and surcharge. We build to engineered drawings for the footing, reinforcement and drainage, and can coordinate the engineering as part of the project.
Almost always water pressure or an undersized footing. Without drainage behind it, water builds up and pushes the wall over time. Commercial retaining wall repair addresses that cause, not just the visible lean.
It depends how far it has moved and what it is holding up. A wall caught early can sometimes be stabilised; one that has shifted badly, especially under parking or a building, is safer rebuilt. We give a straight engineering assessment.
Yes. We build cast-in-place poured walls and engineered, cored-and-reinforced block walls. We recommend one based on the height, the load, the site access and the finish the project needs.

★★★★★

Engineered wall holding back the grade under our new parking lot. Footing, rebar and drainage all to the drawings. A year in, dead straight.

★★★★★

Our old wall behind the building was bulging. They proved it was a drainage problem and rebuilt it with the footing it should have had.

S. R.
Property manager
★★★★★

They coordinated the wall engineering and built it to spec without us managing it. Tied cleanly into the site grading and parking.

G. K.

★★★★★

Straight assessment that our leaning wall had moved too far to patch, given it held up the access road. Rebuilt right, no shortcuts.
