Grip That Lasts: Slip-Resistant Flooring in Regina

Kitchens, freezer rooms, wash-down bays and locker areas demand flooring with measurable grip. Regina Concrete builds slip-resistant systems using broadcast aggregate locked into the concrete slab or textured topcoat finishes that meet your facility's slip-rating requirement. We specify, install and verify the finished grip rating on every project. Free written estimate included.

  • Grip rating verified on-site
  • Aggregate embedded in slab

Grip is liability protection

Why Slip-Resistant Flooring Matters in Commercial Spaces

A slip-and-fall incident in a commercial kitchen, freezer or wash-down area can cost tens of thousands in medical, legal and operational expenses. Slip-resistant flooring is not a cosmetic upgrade; it is a documented safety measure that insurance carriers often require in writing.

The difference between a floor that holds its grip and one that wears smooth comes down to how the aggregate is installed. When silica, quartz or proprietary aggregate is broadcast into a wet primer coat and then sealed under a topcoat, the texture becomes part of the slab itself. Aggregate sprinkled on top of a finished coating will shed within months. We build the system that stays slip-resistant for years.

Our commercial epoxy flooring often includes broadcast aggregate in the same install. We also retrofit polished concrete floors with slip-resistant zones where needed, and coordinate with commercial floor repair when sections have failed.

Installation sequence

How Slip-Resistant Flooring Gets Built in Regina

  1. Identify slip zones

We walk the facility with you to pinpoint which areas require slip-resistant flooring (food prep, freezer access, wash-down, locker rooms) and confirm the slip-rating standard your insurance or industry code calls for.

  2. Prepare the slab

The concrete slab in each zone is ground to the correct profile, old coatings and contaminants removed, cracks sealed, and the surface cleaned and ready for the primer.

  3. Broadcast aggregate

The primer or body coat is applied to the prepped slab, and aggregate (silica sand, quartz, or specialty blend) is broadcast into the wet coat at the loading rate needed to hit your target slip rating.

  4. Seal and verify

The topcoat is applied at the correct thickness to lock the aggregate in place while keeping the texture exposed. Once cured, the finished slip resistance is tested and verified against your specification.

Common installation mistakes

Slip-Resistant Flooring Fails When the System Doesn't Match the Use

We often see slip-resistant floors that were either over-specified (coarse aggregate that shreds mop heads and is uncomfortable to walk on) or under-specified (fine texture that wears smooth in a high-traffic wash-down area). The aggregate size, loading and topcoat thickness must align with the actual use and traffic pattern.

We size every component to your specific environment. If you have adjacent zones with different uses, we coordinate the aggregate and finish so the transition is seamless. We also work with self-leveling concrete when the slab is out of tolerance, and integrate with retail and restaurant flooring systems in the same building.

Common questions

Slip-Resistant Flooring Questions, Answered

Slip ratings, aggregate types, wear life and where slip-resistant is non-negotiable.

Industry slip-resistance tests (such as dynamic coefficient of friction) measure how much grip a floor provides under wet and dry conditions. We specify the system to meet or exceed the target rating for your environment, and verify the finished floor against that target.
Silica sand is the standard for general anti-slip; quartz aggregate is more decorative and harder-wearing; proprietary aggregates exist for specific environments (chemical resistance, high-temperature). We pick based on use, durability and look.
A properly built system, aggregate broadcast into the body coat and locked under the topcoat, holds its slip rating for years. Surface-sprinkled aggregate fails much faster. The system construction is what makes the difference.
Slightly, yes, the texture catches more dirt than a smooth floor. But modern auto-scrubber pads and the right cleaning chemicals make it manageable in any commercial maintenance routine. We share cleaning guidance with the maintenance team at handoff.
Often, yes. A textured coating can sometimes be applied over a clean, sound existing floor to add slip resistance without removal. When the existing floor is already failing, full system removal and replacement is the honest answer.

Slip-rated flooring throughout the wet zones. The texture is comfortable under foot, not aggressive, but the grip rating is real. Patients and staff both benefit.
