Mapelastic Membrane Needs Mapeflex Detail to Perform
A membrane alone cannot seal a wet zone. Corners, drains, penetrations and transitions all require matched joint detail products. Mapeflex tapes, sealants and transition strips are engineered to work with Mapelastic, creating a unified waterproofing assembly that holds under water pressure and movement.
When a tile contractor specifies Mapei for the whole project (adhesive, grout, waterproofing), the warranty chain stays intact and the chemistry is calibrated across all layers. We coordinate with Mapei repair products and Mapei SLU systems to deliver the full Mapei path on tile-coordinated work.
We identify the application (shower, balcony, foundation), confirm the correct Mapei product line (Mapelastic Smart, AquaDefense, etc.), and note any tile-trade coordination or traffic-bearing requirements.
Prepare the substrate
The concrete or substrate is cleaned, cracks are repaired with compatible Mapei products, and the surface is primed per Mapei spec. Joints are isolated with Mapeflex tape or sealant before membrane application.
Apply membrane and detail
Mapelastic is mixed and applied to the specified thickness across the field. Mapeflex detail products are installed at every corner, drain, penetration and transition. No shortcuts on joint detail.
Cure and finish
The system cures per Mapei schedule. Protection layer or tile adhesive (often Mapei Kerabond) is applied per project spec. The waterproofing is handed off ready for service and warranty documentation is complete.
