Rescue Your Concrete Slab with Micro-Topping in Regina

Patched, stained, or simply worn concrete doesn't have to mean tear-out. A micro-topping is a millimetre-thin polymer layer that bonds to your existing slab, creating a fresh, seamless surface ready for any finish. Regina Concrete handles substrate prep, priming, and careful trowelling to deliver a floor that looks brand new without the cost and disruption of replacement.

  • Avoids expensive slab removal
  • Seamless, uniform finish ready for polish or stain
  • Written estimate with firm timeline

Overlay instead of replacement

When Micro-Topping Concrete Solves the Problem

Not every damaged slab needs to come out. If the concrete is structurally sound but cosmetically compromised, patched in visible spots, surface-worn, or too inconsistent to polish directly, a micro-topping is the answer. It bonds to the prepared substrate and creates a new, smooth surface without the labour and expense of tear-out.

The overlay is applied in thin passes, building up just a few millimetres total. Once cured, it becomes the base for polished concrete, acid or water stain, or a sealed matte finish. The slab below stays in place, and the topping hides all the imperfections.

The wrong scenario is a slab with structural failure, heaving, active cracks, or base problems. Those require removal and replacement. We walk the floor, assess the damage, and tell you whether the slab can stay or needs to go.

Installation sequence

How Micro-Topping Installation Happens in Regina

  1. Inspect and diagnose the slab

We examine the concrete for structural integrity, identify surface damage, test for moisture, and determine what prep work is needed before topping can bond properly.

  2. Mechanically profile and prime

The slab surface is ground or shot-blasted to open the pores and create mechanical grip. Any cracks are repaired, then a manufacturer-specified primer is rolled on to ensure adhesion.

  3. Trowel topping in controlled lifts

The polymer-modified topping is applied in thin, overlapping passes. Each lift is trowelled tight to the substrate, building a uniform, seamless layer without voids or high spots.

  4. Burnish, cure and finish

The surface is burnished to the desired sheen, allowed to cure per schedule, then ready for polishing, staining, or sealing.

Finish layer options

What Sits on Top of the Micro-Topping Layer

The topping itself is not the final finish. It is the prepared base. Most homeowners choose to polish the topping for a hard, reflective, low-maintenance floor that reads as high-end concrete.

Others prefer staining for warm, earthy colour, then sealing for protection. Some simply seal the topping as-is for a clean, matte appearance. The topping is engineered to accept any of these finishes. It also pairs seamlessly with radiant floor heating if you want warmth underfoot.

Micro-Topping Questions Answered

Thickness, finishes, when it works and when it doesn't, plus heated floor compatibility.

A few millimetres total, applied in lifts. It is not a full overlay; it is a thin resurfacing that bonds to the substrate and gives the next finish a clean canvas.
When the slab has structural problems, heaving, deep cracks that move, base failure. The topping fixes a cosmetic-grade slab problem, not a structural one. We assess the slab and tell you straight which side of the line it is on.
Any of the interior finishes we install, polish, stain, or a clear sealer. The topping is engineered to take them all.
Done properly, no. The lifts blend together and the burnish produces a uniform surface. We pre-test on a sample area for tricky finishes to confirm the look before doing the whole floor.
Yes. Heated floor underlayment goes down first to encase the radiant heat tubing, then the micro-topping over it, then the finish above. The whole stack works as one heated floor system.

Old basement slab was patched and ugly. They micro-topped it then polished, and now it reads as a brand-new floor without the tear-out and mess of a replacement.

Saved us a slab replacement on the main floor. Micro-topping plus stain plus seal gave us exactly the look we wanted, and the existing slab is hidden underneath.

Knew the answer when they walked in, micro-topping was the move because of how patched our slab was. Done in less than a week and the new floor looks seamless.

Combined with heated floor underlayment underneath. The radiant heat warms the topping evenly and the finished floor is exactly the same look top to bottom.
