Stop Basement Cracks Before Water Finds Them
Basement cracks appear in two locations: the concrete slab underfoot and the interior face of the foundation wall. Both need attention before freeze-thaw cycles or water pressure make them worse. Regina Concrete routes slab cracks to a clean profile and seals them with flexible material, while interior wall cracks receive polyurethane injection through strategically placed ports. When a crack signals a deeper structural issue, we escalate to foundation services rather than mask the problem. Every visit includes a free assessment and a firm written quote.

Two locations, two methods
Where Basement Cracks Start and How to Stop Them
Basement cracks originate in two distinct places, each with its own cause and repair path. Slab cracks typically result from concrete shrinkage as it cures or from settlement of the base material beneath. These cracks run vertically through the floor and allow water to migrate upward from below. Wall cracks on the interior face usually indicate water or pressure working through from the exterior, following a structural crack in the foundation itself.
The repair method depends on location. Slab cracks are routed open using a crack chaser to create a clean V-shaped or square channel, then filled with a flexible sealant that accommodates seasonal movement without re-opening. Interior wall cracks are sealed from inside using polyurethane injection, which bonds to the concrete and flexes as the wall moves. This approach mirrors foundation crack repair techniques but is applied from the basement side.
Not every crack is cosmetic. Horizontal cracks in walls signal structural pressure and belong in the foundation repair category. Cracks paired with active water leakage need interior waterproofing to address the root cause. We identify which category each crack falls into and recommend the full solution, not just a surface fix.
The repair sequence
How Basement Crack Repair Gets Done in Regina
-
Document and classify each crack
We photograph, measure, and categorize every visible crack in the slab and along the interior wall surface, noting whether it appears to be shrinkage, settlement, slab-only, or a through-crack from the exterior.
-
Route slab cracks to clean edges
Using a crack chaser, we open slab cracks to a uniform V or square profile, remove all dust and loose material with compressed air, and prepare the channel for sealant application.
-
Seal or inject based on location
Slab cracks receive flexible sealant pushed to full depth and finished flush with the surface. Wall cracks get polyurethane injected through ports drilled along the crack line, bonding the concrete faces together.
-
Assess cause and pair with solutions
After curing, we evaluate what caused each crack. If water is active, we recommend interior waterproofing. If structural, we refer to foundation crack repair specialists.
Cracks reveal underlying problems
Why Sealing a Crack Is Only Half the Answer
A sealed basement crack stops water at that point, but if the underlying cause remains, the crack or a new one nearby will return. A slab crack above an old plumbing trench will re-open until the base is rebuilt. An interior wall crack weeping water will continue to weep until exterior drainage is corrected or the exterior crack is sealed.
Our approach is to repair the crack properly and then identify what caused it. That honesty sometimes means recommending a second phase of work, like pouring a new slab over a rebuilt base, or engaging foundation repair for structural issues. The written quote reflects the full picture, not just the crack sealing.

Basement Crack Repair Questions Answered
Slab vs wall cracks, sealing methods, injection, and when a crack signals something bigger.
Slab crack above an old plumbing trench got routed and sealed properly, and they said up front the base under it was the real cause. Honest call, the crack stayed sealed.
Three slab cracks and one interior wall crack all in one visit. They classified each, repaired each the right way, and the basement is dry through the season.
They flagged my horizontal wall crack as structural and referred it up rather than just injecting. Could have charged me and walked away. Glad they did the right thing.
Routed slab cracks instead of just smearing sealer on top like the last guy did. The repair has held through two springs of melt. Real method, real results.
