Tile and Stone Stay Dry with Laticrete Waterproofing

Showers, wet rooms and stone floors fail when the membrane underneath fails. Regina Concrete installs Laticrete Hydro Ban and 9235 waterproofing systems paired with matched underlayments, all specified and installed to manufacturer standard. Call for a free written estimate.

The foundation of a lasting tile job

Why Laticrete Waterproofing Matters

Tile and stone look good until water gets behind them. A shower wall or wet floor that leaks does so because the waterproofing membrane failed, not the tile. Laticrete waterproofing (Hydro Ban liquid, 9235 reinforced) stops water at the substrate before it ever reaches the framing or structure.

Below the membrane, Laticrete underlayments flatten the substrate and bond chemically to the waterproofing layer above. When all three layers (underlayment, membrane, thinset) come from the same Laticrete family, the assembly is engineered as one unit, not a stack of incompatible products hoping to work together.

This is the same integrated-system approach we use with Sika and BASF products on basement waterproofing and commercial floor work.

Installation sequence

How Laticrete Waterproofing Gets Installed

  1. Assess the substrate and use case

We evaluate the substrate condition, the wet-area exposure, and movement patterns to decide between Hydro Ban liquid membrane and the 9235 fabric-reinforced system.

  2. Prepare and level with underlayment

A matched Laticrete underlayment is applied to bring the substrate flat and sound, creating a stable base for the waterproofing membrane to bond to.

  3. Apply waterproofing at full thickness

The Hydro Ban or 9235 membrane is applied to the manufacturer-specified thickness, with all seams, corners and transitions detailed and sealed.

  4. Set tile into Laticrete thinset

Tile or stone is embedded in a Laticrete thinset mortar that bonds into the waterproofing membrane, creating a continuous, integrated assembly.

Two products, one approach

Hydro Ban and 9235: Laticrete Waterproofing Options

Hydro Ban is a liquid-applied membrane that seals walls and floors in showers, wet rooms and below-grade tile work. It flows into corners and seams, creating a continuous waterproof layer. The 9235 fabric-reinforced system adds a woven reinforcement layer for extra strength at movement joints, corners and complex transitions.

Both pair with Laticrete underlayments that sit beneath them. The underlayment gets the substrate flat and ready, then the membrane bonds to it, then the tile sets into a Laticrete thinset that bonds to the membrane. It is the same one-system thinking we bring to Sika floor systems and Ardex repair work.

Common questions

Laticrete Waterproofing Questions Answered

Hydro Ban vs 9235, tile assembly waterproofing, and matched underlayments in Regina.

Hydro Ban is a liquid-applied waterproofing membrane for showers, wet rooms and below-grade tile assemblies. It seals the substrate, then tile or finish sets into a Laticrete thinset that bonds into the membrane.
The 9235 fabric-reinforced system adds reinforcement at corners, movement joints and detailed transitions where liquid alone is not enough. We pick based on the specific assembly.
Usually yes. A matched Laticrete underlayment brings the substrate flat and bonds chemically to the membrane above, removing the layer-boundary failure mode you get from mixing brands.
Yes. Hydro Ban and 9235 are designed for shower assemblies and are widely specified for wet rooms, with proper detailing at drains, corners and curbs as part of the install.
We install Laticrete systems to the published manufacturer spec, with primer, membrane and tile-setting products from the same family, so the warranty is intact and the assembly performs.

Hydro Ban under our new shower tile. Watertight, properly detailed at the curb and drain. Two years in and not a single grout-line stain from leaks.

They installed the full Laticrete chain, underlayment, membrane and thinset. One system, one warranty, no finger-pointing between brands.

9235 fabric-reinforced waterproofing for a tricky wet-area detail. Done right at every corner and seam, exactly the assembly the spec called for.

They walked me through why all-Laticrete made sense instead of mixing products. The tile job has been dead solid since.
