When Your Retaining Wall Repair Needs a Real Diagnosis
Water behind the wall is the culprit in nearly every case of leaning, bulging, or shifting concrete. We identify what is actually happening, trace it back to the source, and fix the drainage or footing problem that caused it. Some walls can stay and be repaired; others need to be rebuilt from scratch. You get a free assessment either way.

Understanding wall failure
Why Retaining Wall Repair Starts With Water
A wall that leans or bulges is telling you that water has accumulated behind it. The drainage stone has become clogged with silt, the perforated pipe has cracked or was never installed, or the soil is now holding moisture that pushes outward with tremendous force. Simply re-stacking the blocks or patching the concrete without addressing the water means the same problem returns within a few years.
Our first step is always diagnosis. We look at what the wall is doing (the symptom), then we excavate and inspect to find what caused it (the root). Is it a failed drainage pipe, clogged stone, inadequate footing, or a combination? Once we know, the repair plan follows. Sometimes that means fixing the drainage and resetting a few blocks. Sometimes it means the wall was undersized from the start and needs to be replaced with a properly engineered poured concrete wall or block wall.
This same root-cause approach runs through all our retaining wall work and our foundation repair service, where water and footing issues are equally critical.
The repair sequence
How We Repair Retaining Walls in Regina
-
Assess the wall and its movement
We measure how much the wall is leaning, bulging, or settling, inspect the slope it holds, and look for visible cracks or water seepage. This tells us what is happening on the surface.
-
Excavate and inspect the back
We dig behind the wall to see the drainage stone, the perforated pipe (if it exists), and the back face of the wall itself. This is where we find the actual cause.
-
Rebuild drainage and reset blocks
Bad drainage stone gets removed and replaced with new stone. A new perforated pipe is installed at the base and routed to daylight. Any shifted blocks are reset in place; poured walls are assessed for repair or replacement.
-
Backfill and monitor after rain
The excavation is backfilled with the drainage path intact. We monitor the wall through the next rain or snowmelt to confirm the lean has stopped and the fix is holding.
Repair vs replacement
Not Every Leaning Wall Can Be Saved
Repair works when the wall itself is structurally sound and the cause (usually drainage) can be fixed without tearing the whole thing down. It fails when the wall was built too small, the footing is wrong across its entire length, or the lean is so severe that pulling it back would break it.
On every call we tell you which situation you are in. If repair is just delaying the inevitable, our quote will recommend a new poured wall or block wall built to proper engineering and drainage standards. Honest assessment saves you money in the long run.

Retaining Wall Repair Questions, Answered
Leaning walls, drainage rebuild, when to repair vs replace and root-cause diagnosis.
Three contractors quoted to rebuild the wall. Regina Concrete diagnosed it as a drainage failure, fixed the drainage, reset two block sections, and the wall has stayed put for two years. Fraction of the rebuild price.
Honest that our wall was past repair and a new one was the right call. Could have charged us for a repair that was going to fail. New wall is bombproof. Trust earned.
Drainage pipe behind our poured wall had collapsed years ago. They excavated, replaced it, monitored the wall through spring. No more bulging. Cause was the answer.
Diagnosis was free and detailed. Showed me exactly what was happening and what the options were. Picked the partial rebuild, exactly as quoted, exactly to schedule.
